Creative fun!
BIRTHDAY PARTIES

I create engaging, imaginative birthday parties, including:

  • Cookie decorating parties—I supply the cookies, the icing, the colorful decorations and sprinkles, and the containers to take home the finished cookies.

  • Cake decorating parties—Each child gets a premade cake with a “crumb coat” to decorate.

  • Baking parties—The birthday boy/girl pre-selects the item to be baked.

  • "Chopped” competition birthday parties—Modeled on the hit TV show, these parties are always a hit.

Prices start at $25/child. Parties are held in my kitchen, which means you have nothing to prep and nothing to clean up.

for all ages!
BAKING CLASSES

From time to time, I offer special classes for adults and/or children. For the past two years, for example, I have offered classes on pie crust and shortbread cookies in the fall (conveniently timed for Thanksgiving and the holiday season) and a two-day cake decorating class. I have also done classes for Girl Scout troops, helping them to complete their knife skills/baking badges. Please contact me if you are interested in scheduling a class for your group.

Summer fun!
BAKING CAMPS

In the summer of 2018, I'll offer 3 levels of summer camps. Specific dates and more information on each camp is available in the downloadable brochure (link below).

  • Beginner: scones and pie crust; chocolate chip cookies and leaveners; (making, baking and decorating) sugar cookies; cupcakes and frosting; pizza dough and cinnamon  rolls

  • Advanced: custards and pastry cream; paté a choux,  (cream puffs and eclairs); donuts; cake decorating (completed over two days).

  • “Challenge Camp”: (New for Summer 2018). Campers will be given a recipe, the necessary ingredients, and the required equipment. All cooking, however, will be done independently (with input and advice from the instructor). Campers will also spend time choosing and executing a recipe of their choice (subject to the instructor's approval). This camp is for children ages 11-14 who have previously done my Advanced Camp.

A bit about me!
VALERYE STROCHAK

I’ve taught baking off and on for the past 15 years, both privately in my home and at North Bethesda Middle School in the afterschool program. Three years ago, I began in earnest to teach baking through my neighborhood association. In the summer of 2016, I started a summer baking camp, teaching students in my gourmet kitchen. The camp proved wildly popular, so I expanded it in the summer of 2017 from five weeks to eight weeks—offering both Beginner and Advanced levels.

Today, I also teach in the afterschool program at Westland Middle School, and in the summer of 2018, I will add a “Challenge Camp” for those who have taken my Advanced Camp.

I completed a nine-month semi-professional program and a three-week Cake Decorating course at L'Academie de Cuisine (in Bethesda) and a puff pastry course at King Arthur Flour's Educational Center (in Vermont). I have cooked countless meals for my church, my kids’ sports teams and charitable events. While I enjoy cooking and catering, baking remains my first love. When I’m not baking, I’m usually thinking about baking or reading baking recipes.
